A rare annular eclipse - a ring of sunlight as the new moon, passing between Earth and sun, blocks most, but not all, of the sun's disc. It is striking to see. Differing from a total solar eclipse, the moon in an annular eclipse appears too small to cover the sun completely, leaving a ring of fire effect around the moon. Wild Wonders of Europe is a monumental effort by a Dream Team of 69 of Europe’s best wildlife photographers. These artists carried out no less than 135 assignments, to each and every one of the continent’s 48 countries. The result? A unique collection of almost 200,000 images, showing the Crown Jewels of Europe’s natural heritage. This is the largest photography based nature conservation initiative ever carried out.

Yes, I am one of those crazy, semi-hypocritical converts who is now touting the virtues of the iPhone as a usable camera. I didn’t start out this way (note the semi-hypocritical part). But after being gifted such a phone/camera/GPS/game console, I would be a fool not to see how much use I can get out of a camera that is with me at all time, it seems. Those are pretty much the only two choices. Being judged is uncomfortable. Snap judgments, prejudices, misinformation... all of these, combined with not enough time (how could there be) to truly know you, means that you will inevitably be misjudged, underestimated (or overestimated) and unfairly rejected. The alternative, of course, is much safer. To be ignored. Up to you.
