Code is like a poem; it has to follow certain structural requirements, and yet out of that structure can come art. But code is art that does something. It is the assembly of something brand new from nothing but an idea. More »

High Availability is a key consideration for any VMware vSphere Design. VMware HA is a very easy and effective tool that you should always enable to improve VM availability. vSphere 5 introduces a considerably enhanced mechanism to achieve high availability that removes the limitations of the previous versions. As a result it is much more easily achievable to have clusters that contain a far larger number of hosts. With the enhancements to VMware HA in vSphere 5 there are some considerations that show all text

Corruption: Judge Chris Hensen, who ordered the Dutch Pirate Party to censor all links to The Pirate Bay recently (something Techdirt calls Censorship Crazy), appears to have quite a bit of dirt in his baggage. This morning, @Kanarieman pointed me to an article of my own from 2010: just under two years ago, another very strange case went down in the Netherlands. <![CDATA[Discovery Buys Revision3 for $30 Million - Peter Kafka - Media - AllThingsD]]> Fri, 4 May 2012 09:37:48 +0400 allthingsd.com - Peter Kafka
Web video is supposed to disrupt cable TV. And maybe it will, one day. In the meantime, the cable guys are doing just fine. Here’s a proof point: Discovery Communications, parent of the Discovery Channel, has purchased Revision3, a Web video start-up that makes and distributes its own shows, like “Tekzilla” and “Epic Meal Time.” Discovery isn’t disclosing a purchase price, but multiple sources familiar with the transaction tell me the cable guys will pay around $30 million for the start-up. By Narasimha Krishnakumar, Staff Product Manager, End-User Computing We are excited to announce a new feature with VMware View 5.1 – VMware View Storage Accelerator. View Storage Accelerator (formerly known as Content Based Read Cache) optimizes storage load and improves performance by caching common image blocks when reading virtual desktop images, helping to reduce overall TCO in VMware View deployments. <![CDATA[Android Ported to C# – Xamarin]]> Wed, 2 May 2012 08:49:44 +0400 blog.xamarin.com - Miguel
Oracle and Google are currently in a $1 billion wrestling match over Google’s use of Java in Android. But Java is not the only way to build native apps on Android. In fact, it’s not even the best way: we have been offering C# to Android developers as a high-performance, low-battery consuming alternative to Java. Our platform, Mono, is an open source implementation of the .NET framework that allows developers to write their code using C# while running on top of the Java-powered operating system,... show all text

I get this question a lot. Maybe not as much as ‘Should I Virtualize PVS?‘ or ‘How many users/VMs can I get on a box?’, but I get this question quite a bit. And I felt like it was time to address this since I see our customers, partners and even our own Consultants attempting to isolate the PVS streaming traffic onto its own network… Read More

We have seen a tremendous amount of customer interest in optimizing endpoint security in VMware vSphere and VMware View environments. As server consolidation ratios rise and as large scale virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environments roll out it is important to take a fresh look at endpoint security. While the tried and true practice of installing a thick security agent per virtual machine is certainly viable, there is a lot to be gained in taking a new approach that is optimized for the show all text
